This project commenced in 2008 when Apex Circuit Design were commissioned with Ridge and Partners by Bahrain International Circuit to design a karting facility to compliment the existing motorsport infrastructure and to provide a facility which can be enjoyed by adults, families and children alike - whether they are spectating or competing. The design brief asked for 'the World's best' in terms of visitor experience and facilities.
Now forming part of the @bahrain district, a world-class commerce, entertainment and education facility adjacent to the Bahrain International Circuit, the project has progressed to the construction phase under the experienced hands of Cebarco Bahrain, who were responsible for the construction of the adjacent F1 circuit in 2004, with a revised and value engineered remit for a commercially viable karting venue, with a focus on user functionality.
The circuit layout remains as before with a 1.4km, topographically challenging, environmentally sound specification that has over 4.7m of grade change. The design conforms to CIK category ‘A’ standards whilst also providing a variety of interesting track permutations for day to day users, ranging from a simple 'bambino' layout to more challenging permutations for experienced karters.
Apex, working with Scott Wilson for their specialist Civil Engineering input, have continued to provide a post design contribution to the project throughout 2010 in a technical and CIK conformance supporting role to the @bahrain team. The facility commenced construction in June and is due to be operational by 2011 and will be operated by the Bahrain International Circuit.
