Clive Bowen was invited in 2005 by Ralph ‘Bizzy’ Williams to attend the season finale of the Bajan saloon car championship at Bushy Park, an event which attracted 15,000 spectators (comprising nearly 5% of the country’s population). He was brought in to the country to review the circuit’s options to upgrade the 1971 built track to a minimum FIA Category 3 status and to propose an appropriate and commercially viable track redevelopment. The land for the site is currently under control by the government of Barbados and the local Barbados Motorsport Federation near agreement to lease and develop the facility. One thing is certain; there is no doubt about public support for motorsport in Barbados or the willingness of those in the sport to see the circuit upgraded.
In 2010 Apex were commissioned to establish an engineered solution and master plan to upgrade Bushy Park to a 2.0km FIA Grade 3 circuit as part of the FIA Institute Facilities Improvement Programme, with a commercially sustainable surrounding development. This project is now very much a target for economic regeneration and tourism and is expected to be upgraded in 2012.
