Apex were commissioned initially, in 2004, to undertake a circuit design and master planning exercise for the redesign of the circuit. This resulted in the recommended ‘arrowhead configuration’, providing an increase in the area outside of the circuit available for commercial development by utilising the ‘International’ and ‘National’ straights.

The 2004 design was not adopted but the project led, in 2006, to Apex being commissioned as part of a design team, led by HOK Sport London, responsible for the redevelopment of the pit/paddock complex at Silverstone. Apex were responsible for the detailed design and FIA design approval of the reconfiguration of the circuit at three corners of the circuit; Vale, Club and Abbey, and also provided ongoing project support and consultancy for the general layout and detailed design of the new paddock and buildings. The circuit redesign passed FIA Homologation in April of 2008 and the development secured planning consent in July 2008.
