Clive Bowen
Clive Bowen, the founding director of Apex Circuit Design Ltd, is a qualified graduate mechanical engineer, educated at the University of Portsmouth. He has 22 years experience of design and build of international turnkey civil/mechanical engineering projects and provides his clients with the direct link through personal contacts within FIA/FIM/FOM/CiK to ensure the design and final operating circuit will meet stringent regulatory requirements.
Clive is an active member of the UK’s Motorsport Industry Association. His motorsport projects include, as circuit designer: the Eurasia Autodrome Domodedovo (Russia), the Alabama Motorsport Park (USA), the Dubai Autodrome (UAE), the Iceland MotoPark (Iceland) and the Hampton Downs Circuit (New Zealand). In addition, he has been contracted to provide masterplan design for Eastern Creek Raceway (Australia), Silverstone Circuit (UK), Rio Jacarepagua Circuit (Brazil) and the Singapore Street Circuit (Singapore).
Following graduation in 1986 he initially undertook graduate training with Rolls-Royce plc, after which he commenced a 14 year career in international commercial facilities design and project management. In 1994 he began to develop his, previously amateur, interest in motor racing into the professional motorsport engineering consultancy he now runs: In 1997 he teamed up with Paul Berger for a project in Dubai which resulted in the Dubai Autodrome project. From 2000 until 2006 he was a key member of the West Surrey Racing Ltd. management team where he managed commercial and engineering activities including managing the design, build and homologation of race cars, the set up and operation of a satellite BTCC team and his race circuit design activities.
Clive is a keen sportsman who, in addition to competing for Great Britain at world championship level yachting, includes motorsport among his pastimes. He raced karts at British national level and owned and ran a private Formula Ford team between 1995 and 1997.
